Artist Statement Drawing visual inspiration from cultures worldwide, my artistic practice explores the interplay of self-reflection, culture, and identity. By melding together an array of patterns, hues, and motifs reminiscent of various communities across the globe (but not any one in particular), my work serves as a visual exploration of these fundamental concepts. I intertwine botanical motifs such as petals and blooms, adding a touch of organic fluidity to contrast the structured patterns. Utilizing vibrant acrylic pigments, I enliven traditional textile designs and decorative elements sourced from various cultures, infusing both two- and three-dimensional wooden surfaces with rich, evocative imagery. My work embodies a profound journey—an ode to the rich tapestry of community, tradition, and culture, while also serving as a personal quest for my own identity. As someone of mixed heritage, influenced by both my familial background and the diverse cultural landscape of my upbringing and experiences in the United States, my work reflects this intricate fusion of influences, celebrating the beauty of cultural diversity and the complexities of individual identity.
