Compositions of Nature
The seven pieces in this collection were made exclusively from the wooden parts and pieces from a Wurlitzer Piano from approximately the 1930s or 40s. I decided to create a series of works that were based on the symmetry and design of flowers. Most of the labor in this project came from taking the tiny pieces apart with screwdrivers and pliers and sanding any jagged edges. I knew which pieces had a good shape and took apart the things I knew I would use. The design for each piece here was entirely intuitive and based on both the size of the surface and what looked best within the confines of a square. Each work is 100% unique and intentional in concept and design. The title of this collection was a play on the word “composition” from both a musical and artistic perspective.
